Observation – What do I see?

 Five questions of observation:

• Who?
• What?
• Where?
• When?
• Why?

Interpretation – What does it mean?

 Four steps of interpretation:

• Content – observe the details of the passage
• Context – know what comes before and after the passage
• Comparison – compare to other passages
• Culture – know the cultural context of the passage

Application – How does it work?

 Steps of application:

• Know the truth
• Relate the truth to life
• Meditate on the truth
• Practice the truth

Eight questions of application:

• Is there an example to follow?
• Is there a sin to avoid?
• Is there a promise to claim?
• Is there a prayer to repeat?
• Is there a command to obey?
• Is there a condition to meet?
• Is there a verse or passage to memorize?
• Is there a challenge to follow?
